Survival Fitness: From the Beginning

Survival Fitness Bay City started on July 1st, 2013 in the old Dunlop building on the one ways in Bay City with only 20 members. Jason McCrandall was the manager for nearly a decade. Workouts were done for years from a white board with a living room sound system (if you know, you know).

Fast forward to 2020 when the growth phase started- it was time for a bigger space.

228 Washington was a vacant building, the former Red Cross Building, and the renovations quickly started.

Fast forward to September 15th, 2021, when Survival Fitness moved into their new nearly 9,000 square foot building with all new equipment, locker rooms with showers, a 3d body scanner, turf and more. Just like in the old facility, Survival Fitness offers CrossFit classes, workouts, personal training, and group classes. McCrandall says trainers in group classes are certified Level 1 CrossFit or higher, and there are classes to fit most anyone’s schedule. Keeping it personal is only a part of the picture. McCrandall says it’s also about motivating people to change their lives.
